Montreal's 375th anniversary - August 24 to 27, 2017 - A Country Festival in the Heart of the City! The NomadFest Urban Rodeo Gallops into Montreal

MONTREAL, Nov. 15, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The first edition of the NomadFest Urban Rodeo, coming up next August 24 to 27, will bring a taste of country culture to Montreal's 375th anniversary official program. Jacques-Cartier Pier in the Old Port will be the stomping grounds of this country festival, which is sure to quicken the pulse of the city. During the four-day festival, cowboys and cowgirls will be plunged into an immersive contemporary country setting conceived by TKNL Productions in cooperation with the Festival Western de St-Tite.

The multitude of activities organized for the NomadFest Urban Rodeo will take place in conjunction with four superb rodeos in an arena with a seating capacity of more than 5,000. Professional rodeo athletes and their steeds will compete in riding, speed and agility contests.

The rodeo portion of the festival was entrusted to the organizers of the Festival Western de St-Tite, recognized for 16 years running by the International Professional Rodeo Association as the best of its kind in North America.

The site will reverberate with the sounds of country music. The main stage will showcase country, new country, bluegrass and folk bands, while inside the saloon, spectators and poker players will be entertained by a pianist and dancers. All the while, the dance floor will be open to one and all!

Over four days, visitors of all ages will be immersed in the world of country in an urban setting. The instant they set foot on Jacques-Cartier Pier, all of their senses will be stimulated. They will find themselves in a global, interactive village that faithfully depicts country culture, right down to a general store, barbershop, cowboy school, western inn serving typical southwestern American fare… and much more!

The NomadFest Urban Rodeo was conceived to provide an entertaining and informative experience. Aspiring cowboys and cowgirls of all ages will be keen to test their skills in an Interactive Zone featuring horseshoe toss and a variety of other games, and to familiarize themselves with the techniques of lasso throwing, pistol shooting or riding a mechanical bull. The public will have a chance to visit the rodeo horses in their stalls, accompanied by professional cowboys. These are just a few of the many activities that will give festivalgoers a better understanding of the cowboy's historical roots, daily routines and lifestyle. Exhibition booths will round out the features of this one-of-a-kind, festive event.

"Country culture is fascinating and, above all, so upbeat and unifying," said Serge Postigo, assistant director of Montreal's 375th anniversary celebrations. "We are truly thrilled to help people discover this unique world as part our official programming. We invite everyone to attend the exciting events and make the most of this unparalleled immersive experience in the heart of the city."

"Country is part of the fabric of our history and of popular culture," added Denis Coderre, mayor of Montreal. "I applaud the partnership with the St-Tite experts and hope that people will attend in large numbers."

"The Quebec government is pleased to support the NomadFest Urban Rodeo festival, an opportunity for people to discover the world of country in a celebratory atmosphere. This family event testifies to the diversity and originality of the cultural and musical activities to be showcased in our city in 2017," said Martin Coiteux, minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, minister of Public Security, and minister responsible for the Montreal region.
