OTTAWA, June 23, 2016 /CNW/ - His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will officially welcome His Excellency Enrique Peña Nieto, President of the United Mexican States, to Canada for a State visit from June 27 to 29. President Peña Nieto's visit will include stops in Québec, Toronto and Ottawa, and is taking place ahead of the North American Leaders' Summit occurring in Ottawa on June 29.
The elements of the State visit program involving the Governor General and President Peña Nieto are outlined below:
In Québec - Monday, June 27:
- Official welcoming ceremony with military honours at the official residence of the Governor General at the Citadelle of Québec. President Peña Nieto will inspect the guard of honour. The Governor General and the President will then offer remarks.
- Meeting between the Governor General and the President
In Ottawa – Tuesday, June 28:
- President Peña Nieto will plant a commemorative tree on the grounds of Rideau Hall.
- State dinner at Rideau Hall hosted by Their Excellencies in honour of the President's visit to Canada. The event will be attended by the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, and Madame Sophie Grégoire Trudeau. The Governor General and the President will deliver speeches on this occasion.
The detailed itinerary of events involving the Governor General and President Peña Nieto will be released at a later date by the Rideau Hall Press Office.
MEDIA ACCREDITATION FOR EVENTS AT THE CITADELLE
To cover events at the Citadelle, media representatives must confirm their attendance
in advance with the Rideau Hall Press Office.
Media representatives are asked to arrive at least 40 minutes prior to events taking place.
They will be asked to present valid photo ID along with their affiliated media credentials.
