HAMILTON, ON, Sept. 29, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Steven Blaney,
Minister of Veterans Affairs, today spoke to members of the Canadian
Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping (CAVUNP) at the
Biennial Association General Meeting in Hamilton.
"I would like to thank the members of the Canadian Association of
Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping for their commitment toward
bettering the lives of our Veterans, men and women in uniform and all
those who have served our country in peacekeeping missions around the
world," said Minister Blaney. "Our Government is pleased to participate
in important events like this one and show our support to our valued
Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping members
from across Canada gathered in Hamilton for three days of activities
during the Biennial Association General Meeting, which includes
deliberations, commemorative ceremonies and social activities.
"We thank Minister Blaney for his participation and value his consistent
engagement on items of importance to Veterans," said Ron Griffis,
National President of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United
"Through your hard work and dedication, you have helped to change the
lives of those who have served and continue to serve our country in
defence of the freedoms we enjoy today," added Minister Blaney.
Since 1947, United Nations forces have performed peacekeeping duties
worldwide. Canada has always played an important role in those
activities. Association members include serving and retired Canadian
Military, RCMP and civilian Veterans of United Nations Peacekeeping
missions, other non-UN missions established under UN Resolutions and
peacekeeping missions sanctioned by the Government of Canada.
