Governor General to Cheer on 2015 Canada Army Run Participants

OTTAWA, Sept. 17, 2015 /CNW/ - As patron of Canada Army Run, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will cheer on participants this Sunday, September 20, 2015.

At 7:15 a.m., His Excellency will meet with the ill, injured and disabled athletes participating in Canada Army Run in downtown Ottawa. In addition, the Governor General will address athletes competing in the five-kilometre run, at 7:25 a.m., and those running in the half-marathon, at 9 a.m.

At 9:40 a.m., His Excellency will root for the thousands of participants as they run, walk or roll through the 13-kilometre marker at Rideau Hall. This is the second consecutive year that the official residence and workplace of the governor general is part of the half-marathon course and is hosting a cheering area for members of the public.

Canada Army Run is a unique running event in which Canadians can run, walk or roll side-by-side with members of the Canadian Armed Forces in half-marathon and five-kilometre events. Media representatives wishing to cover the half-marathon portion at Rideau Hall
must contact Marie-Ève Létourneau (
marie-eve.letourneau@gg.ca) in advance and
arrive on-site no later than 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, September 20.
Media identification cards must be worn at all times while on the grounds.
