MONTREAL, Sept. 20, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - For the second time, the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge, presented by PROXIM, will take place at Alexis Nihon on September 22, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. In this childhood cancer awareness month, more than 50 participants will get their head shaved on stage, before making their way towards the mirror covered by a curtain where the hosts Catherine Verdon-Diamond from Breakfast Television Montreal and radio host Brooksy of Virgin will reveal their transformation before the public.
Our honorary co-presidents Mr. Sylvain Cossette, CEO of Cominar, and Mr. Mason Poplaw, partner of McCarthy Tetrault, will get their head shaved. Mr. Cossette has raised more than $ 105,000 for his head so far! On his side, Mr. Poplaw will be taking on the challenge with an incredible $ 50,000 alongside his daughter Audrey who has raised $ 3,370. "As someone who lost several loved ones to cancer, including my mother, and as the father of two beautiful young girls, I was sincerely and instantly drawn by the idea to take part in the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge. While I enjoy the lightly provocative nature of the Challenge, at the heart of it is a symbolic and significant gesture which could not be more inspiring.", said Mr. Poplaw.
To kick-off the event, Me Anne-France Goldwater will be announcing a donation LIVE at noon. Nine employees from IGA Atwater will be taking on the Challenge with a goal of $3,000. Canadian Tire and The Gazette are proud to sponsor the Reveal Area and the VIP Zone at Alexis Nihon. Five employees of the Gazette, including their editor in chief and vice-president, content, eastern region of Postmedia, Lucinda Chodan, will participate. So far, they have raised more than $ 6,000. To join their CEO, four employees of Cominar will take on the Challenge.
Several sports team from Dawson and Concordia will be there. Inspired by their coach, four Concordia Stingers Men's Rugby players will get their head shaved. Danick Arnaud from McGill Redmen Rugby and Nicolas Tardif from the Dawson Blues Men's Hockey will be there with their team to give their support and donations for cancer-stricken children.

About the Challenge
The Leucan Shaved Head Challenge is a major fundraiser of Leucan that engages the community in a spirit of solidarity to provide services to cancer-stricken children and their families as well as providing financial support to clinical research. It is also a gesture of support for children whose body image is altered when chemotherapy provokes hair loss.
