MONTREAL, June 13, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers (IEEE) MTT International Microwave Symposium will
take place in Montréal from June 17 to 22. This important event will
bring in town more than 10,000 visitors from 32 countries, just in time
to kick off the summer season. Congress activities will take place at
the Palais des congrès de Montréal (Montréal Convention Centre) and
will generate approximately $28 million in economic spinoffs.
The IEEE MTT International Microwave Symposium is the premier annual
international meeting for technologists involved in all aspects of
microwave theory and practice. It consists of a full week of events,
including technical paper presentations, workshops, and tutorials, as
well as a full set of social events. The symposium also hosts a huge
commercial exhibition, with more than 560 exhibitors in attendance,
organized by MP Associates.
Since its inception, 60 years ago, it is only the second time that this
symposium has been held outside the United States, namely thanks to
Palais Appointed Ambassador Ke Wu, Professor of Electrical Engineering
at École Polytechnique, who helped bring the event to Montréal.
"The prestige of this international convention and its economic impact
make it the most significant event of its kind for Québec in 2012. We
are proud to welcome participants in Montréal at a time when the city
is alive with activity and the festival season is about to take off,"
said the Honourable Charles Lapointe, President and Chief Executive
Officer of Tourisme Montréal.
Mr. Marc Tremblay, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Palais
des congrès de Montréal, added: "We are thrilled to welcome the
10,000 IEEE's delegates in our versatile and efficient installations
for an optimal technological experience. The only North American
convention centre among the finalists for the 2010 APEX Award for the
World's Best Congress Centre, the Palais is ideally located for this
event in the heart of Montréal."
A non-profit organization, IEEE is the world's leading professional
association for the advancement of technology. Through its global
membership, IEEE is a leading authority on areas ranging from aerospace
systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering,
