OTTAWA, Feb. 4, 2013 /CNW/ - The Standards Council of Canada (SCC) is
pleased to announce that both ASTM International and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) have been accredited by SCC to develop National Standards of Canada.
"The expansion of SCC's standards development program to include ASTM
International and UL is of great benefit to Canadians," says SCC's
Chief Executive Officer, John Walter. "With additional SCC-accredited
standards development organizations operating in Canada, SCC is able to
offer more standardization solutions to better serve the needs of
Canadian government, industry and consumers."
ASTM International and UL have met SCC's rigorous program requirements for the accreditation of standards development
organizations (SDOs). Both organizations currently have standards referenced in
Canadian federal regulations. Accreditation by SCC will improve the
relevance and value of standards in the Canadian system. Additionally,
expansion of SDOs in Canada presents greater flexibility and increased
opportunities to solve regulatory issues, harmonize standards and
