OTTAWA, July 5, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, today announced the re-appointment of Ms. Nellie T. Kusugak to the position of Deputy Commissioner of Nunavut.

"I am pleased to announce the re-appointment of Ms. Nellie Kusugak as Deputy Commissioner of Nunavut," said Minister Valcourt. "Ms. Kusugak has very successfully carried out her duties since her appointment in January 2010. The governments of Canada and Nunavut, along with all Nunavummiut, will benefit from her experience and the stability that she will continue to bring to this important position."

Ms. Kusugak is a professional teacher with an extensive background in traditional and cultural education, teaching English as a second language and working with community elders.

"Ms. Kusugak has a wealth of knowledge and experience that makes her an excellent choice for Deputy Commissioner of Nunavut," said the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency and MP for Nunavut. "I would like to congratulate Ms. Kusugak on her re-appointment and I know she will continue to serve Nunavummiut well."
