OTTAWA, Nov. 27, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister
of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, today announced two
appointments to the Gwich'in Renewable Resources Board (GRRB).
Ms. Bobbie Jo Greenland has been appointed as a member and Mr. Eugene
Pascal has been appointed Chair. The appointments will be for a term of

appointments to the Gwich'in Renewable Resources Board," said Minister
Valcourt. "I'm particularly pleased that Mr. Pascal has accepted his
third term on the Board, now in the position of Chair. The addition of
these board members will ensure that the GRRB remains successful in
managing renewable resources in the Gwich'in Settlement Area."

understanding of the issues that affect the people of the North have
agreed to serve on these important organizations," said the Honourable
Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of the Environment, Minister of the Canadian
Northern Economic Development Agency and Minister for the Arctic
The GRRB was established by the Gwich'in Land Claim Settlement Act in December 1992. The Board is responsible for conservation and manages
domestic and commercial harvesting of wildlife and forestry in the
Gwich'in Settlement Area.
The GRRB consists of seven members, including the Chair, plus six
alternate members. All are jointly appointed by the Governor in Council
on the recommendation of the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and
Northern Development and by the Executive Council of the Government of
the Northwest Territories (GNWT). Four members are nominated by Canada,
six by the Gwich'in Tribal Council, and two by the GNWT. The Chair is
nominated by the Board itself. Governor in Council appointments are
based on the guiding principles of competency, professionalism and
accessibility to all Canadians.
