Member of Parliament Ray Boughen Announces Support for the Cathedral Village Arts Festival

REGINA, Oct. 24, 2013 /CNW/ - Ray Boughen, Member of Parliament (Palliser), on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for the Cathedral Area Community Association to help present its 2014 Cathedral Village Arts Festival.

"Year after year, the Cathedral Area Community Association succeeds in creating a dynamic event that offers something for people of all ages and brings together thousands festival-goers," said Mr. Boughen. "I would like to thank the organizers, performers, and volunteers who help make the Cathedral Village Arts Festival a reality and wish them all the best with this year's festival."

Held annually in May, the Cathedral Village Arts Festival is a community celebration that attracts over 30,000 people to the area. The festival showcases local talent, offers a street fair with artisans, buskers, and visual art exhibitions, and presents performances in music, dance and theatre.

"Our Government is proud to invest in festivals that highlight home-grown talent and bring people together like this one," said Minister Glover. "Today's announcement demonstrates that we are serious about supporting organizations that enrich their community's cultural life and also strengthen its economy."

"Support from the Government of Canada helps the Cathedral Village Arts Festival fulfil its founding principle that art is the fabric of our lives and helps to create community," said Brent Kramer, President of the Cathedral Area Community Association. "The entire community comes together in making the creation and public display of art available for everyone."

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $16,100 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
