OTTAWA, Nov. 5, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), today announced additional funding from the Government of Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Paralympic Committee, for the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport in support of the Canadian Anti-Doping Program.

"I am pleased to stand with our partners, the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Paralympic Committee, in the fight against doping in sport," said Minister of State Gosal. "This cooperation reflects our Government's continued commitment to ensure that Canadian sport is practiced in an ethical and dope-free environment."

The Government of Canada is providing a one-time incremental contribution of $400,000 in 2013-14 to the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport for its Canadian Anti-Doping Program. In addition, the Canadian Olympic Committee is contributing $400,000 over three years and the Canadian Paralympic Committee is adding an additional one-time contribution of $10,000.

With the additional contribution, the Government of Canada is providing funding of close to $5.9 million to the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport in 2013-2014. In turn, the Centre delivers a world-class anti-doping testing and education program and provides ethics services to the Canadian sport community.

The Government of Canada is also committed to taking part in worldwide efforts to eliminate doping in sport. It supports the World Anti-Doping Agency and serves as a representative of the Americas Region on the Agency's Foundation Board.
