WINDSOR, ON, July 5, 2013 /CNW/ - On behalf of the Honourable Rona
Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister
for Status of Women, Mr. Jeff Watson, Member of Parliament for Essex,
today announced Government of Canada support for a project to improve
economic security among young women in Windsor, Ontario.
"Through Economic Action Plan 2013, the Government of Canada is
committed to creating a strong economy for all Canadians, and women are
key to Canada's economic success," said Minister Ambrose. "Through this
project, we will empower more young women to succeed and support their
future economic security and prosperity."
Women's Enterprise Skills Training of Windsor Inc. is receiving $174,149 for a 20-month project to increase the economic prosperity of girls and
young women in Windsor-Essex County. A youth council composed of young
women from diverse backgrounds will identify barriers to their economic
success. An advisory committee of community stakeholders will identify
gaps in their services that may prevent young women from realizing
their economic potential. In consultation with these stakeholders, the
youth council will develop a community action plan to address the

facilitate opportunities to work together, and create a brighter future

The Government of Canada has approved more than $5.9 million in funding
to date to organizations to carry out projects that promote leadership
and economic prosperity among girls and young women. Successful
projects were chosen following a Call for Proposals entitled Setting the Stage for Girls and Young Women to Succeed.
The Government of Canada is committed to supporting projects that yield
concrete results for women and girls while strengthening families,
communities and the country. Through Status of Women Canada, federal
support for community-based projects has nearly doubled since
2006-2007, supporting more than 600 projects across Canada.
