Government, Military and Business Leaders Come Together to Help Veterans Transition to Private Sector Careers

  • Canada Company's inaugural Employer Partner Coalition Conference helps bridge the gap for Veteran-Private sector employment initiatives

  • Launch of Canada Company's MET online portal offers access to career opportunities with military friendly employers

TORONTO, Nov. 22, 2013 /CNW/ - More than 100 employers from Canada's private sector will gather this week for Canada Company's inaugural Military Employment Transition (MET) Employer Partner Coalition Conference in Toronto on November 21 and 22. Focused exclusively on veteran employment, the conference is designed to help bridge the gap between the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and corporate Canada by serving as a platform to share successful techniques and best practices that assist transitioning and transitioned CAF members entering the private sector.

The conference will feature leaders from corporate Canada and the Canadian government, represented by delegates from the Department of National Defence and Veterans Affairs Canada.

"Members of the military leave the service with valuable skills and experience that are sought after by the private sector," said Blake C. Goldring, Chairman of Canada Company and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, AGF Management Limited. "Making a successful transition is critical and this conference will offer an important opportunity for veterans and employers to learn from each other and share best practices. In addition, the launch of the updated Canada Company website will provide transitioning military members and veterans with a secure portal to access career opportunities in the private sector with military friendly employers."

"I am very pleased with the collaboration between the Canadian Armed Forces, Canada Company, and the many Canadian businesses and organizations that facilitate employment for highly-qualified military members with valuable transferable skill sets who are in transition to the civilian workforce," said the Honourable Rob Nicholson, Minister of National Defence. "Initiatives such as the Military Employment Transition Conference, and the related transition web portal, are vital elements in support for those who have served our country."

"Our Government is proud to work with organizations like Canada Company that help to connect Canadian veterans with businesses searching for highly skilled, disciplined and dedicated employees. We have recently shown our own commitment to assisting veterans find rewarding work by introducing new measures that will give injured veterans priority access to job opportunities in the federal public service," said the Honourable Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs. "I am pleased to be joining with so many partners at this important forum. Together, we will continue building a network of support to ensure that the men and women who defended our nation can apply their considerable skills and expertise to new challenges once their service is complete."
