Glenn Vollebregt Named Co-Chair of the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer

TORONTO, May 6, 2014 /CNW/ - Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College, has been named the new Co-Chair of the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT).

To ensure representation from both the college and the university sectors, the ONCAT Board is led by two Co-Chairs. Vollebregt is assuming the college Co-Chair role from Don Lovisa, President of Durham College, while Dominic Giroux, President and Vice-Chancellor of Laurentian University, is the current university Co-Chair.

"On behalf of the ONCAT Board, I am pleased to welcome Glenn to his new role," said Giroux. "As President of St. Lawrence College, Glenn has contributed considerable insight and leadership to the postsecondary sector, and his strengths will be of great benefit to our work on student mobility."

"I believe strongly in putting students first," said Vollebregt. "That has always been my top priority as president, and I look forward to extending that passion to an organization such as ONCAT, which is focused on helping all postsecondary institutions in Ontario support student success."

ONCAT was created in 2011 to support publicly-funded postsecondary institutions in developing the infrastructure required to promote student mobility, and is the only organization in Ontario that brings together all members of the postsecondary education sector.

"Collaboration is the cornerstone of our approach, and our success is due in large part to our Board," said Glenn Craney, Executive Director of ONCAT. "On behalf of all our members, we welcome Glenn to his new role."

This year, ONCAT has launched several firsts for Ontario. The ONCAT student website, ONTransfer.ca, now boasts a Course-to-Course Transfer Guide as well as institutional profiles that highlight credit transfer policies and procedures. ONCAT has also worked with institutions to collect preliminary student mobility data, which confirms the significant role credit transfer plays in the province.

"In my personal experience, Glenn Vollebregt is an ideal next college Co-Chair, and his vision of putting students first will definitely serve to strengthen and extend ONCAT's success," said Lovisa. "I'm proud of what we have accomplished at ONCAT, and to have helped lay the foundations for enhanced student mobility in Ontario."

"I would like to express the Board's deep appreciation for Don's contribution as ONCAT's inaugural college Co-Chair," said Giroux. "His leadership helped bring institutions together and advance Ontario's development of a more responsive postsecondary education sector that maximizes student mobility."

Established in 2011, the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) was created to enhance academic pathways and reduce barriers for students looking to transfer among Ontario's 44 publicly funded colleges and universities. As a member organization, it works with those institutions to develop transfer credit policies and practices to ease student mobility. ONCAT is the only organization in Ontario that brings together all members of the postsecondary education sector.
