TORONTO, Oct. 31, 2013 /CNW/ - The Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch,
Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, congratulated the
winners of Canada's Safest Employers Awards at the 3rd annual gala in
Toronto last night.
"Our government remains focused on the economy and keeping Canadian
workplaces safe, fair and productive," said Minister Leitch. "These
awards are proof that by paying attention to the safety and well-being
of employees, employers can markedly improve productivity and
performance, while decreasing workplace accidents and injury."
Canada's Safest Employers Awards recognize employers who demonstrate
exceptional health and safety practices in industries ranging from
manufacturing and health care to hospitality and transportation.
In her speech, Minister Leitch encouraged employers and employees to
take proactive measures to prevent accidents and fatalities on the job.
"Creating safe and healthy workplaces across Canada is a shared
responsibility," added Minister Leitch. "Employers, employees,
governments and organizations all have a role to play."
The Government of Canada Labour Program develops, administers and
enforces workplace legislation and health and safety regulations, such
