Discipline Committee Finds Former Social Worker Guilty of Professional Misconduct

TORONTO, Sept. 20, 2012 /CNW/ - The Discipline Committee of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers has found Beth F. Eisen guilty of professional misconduct.  Ms. Eisen was found to have violated sections 2.31, 2.32, and 2.36 of Ontario Regulation 384/00 (Professional Misconduct) for: failing to comply with a 2007 Order of the Discipline Committee and, more particularly with the terms and conditions imposed on her Certificate of Registration by the Order; failing to comply with her subsequent written Undertaking and Acknowledgement to the College, in which she undertook to comply with the terms and conditions imposed on her Certificate of Registration by the Discipline Committee; and therefore, for engaging in conduct or performing an act relevant to the practice of the profession that, having regard to all circumstances would reasonably be regarded by members as disgraceful, dishonourable or unprofessional.  In its decision, the Discipline Committee ordered that the findings and order of the Committee be published with the name of the former member on the general newswire.

In 2007, Ms. Eisen admitted and the Discipline Committee found that she had committed professional misconduct for: failing to maintain clear boundaries in her relationship with a client, failing to regard the well-being of her client as a primary professional obligation; failing to distinguish her own needs from the needs of her client; and using personal information about her client to coerce the client into changing or withdrawing the client's allegations concerning Ms. Eisen's conduct.

A summary of the Committee's decision is available on the College's website at www.ocswssw.org.
