William D. Mahoney Receives Order of Newfoundland and Labrador - Board of Governors Member at Commissionaires Newfoundland and Labrador, One of Nine Award Recipients

ST. JOHN'S, Dec. 19, 2016 /CNW/ - Commissionaires Newfoundland and Labrador Division congratulates its Board of Governors member, William D. Mahoney, OMM, CD, recipient of the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Frank. F. Fagan, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland bestowed the honour on nine individuals, December 16 at Government House.

The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador recognizes individuals who have demonstrated excellence and achievement in any field of endeavour benefiting in an outstanding manner, the Province and its residents.

Honorary Colonel Mahoney retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 2004.  He was introduced to the military as a member of 508 Caribou Air Cade Squadron in 1968.  He enrolled as an officer and was promoted to the rank of Major in 1987.  The next year he was appointed Flight Commander of the first air reserve unit at St. John's, a position he held until 1996 when he was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel and appointed Provincial Liaison Officer with the Canadian Forces Liaison Council.  He is a current director of the Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador and is a member of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Advisory Council and the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association.  Colonel Mahoney serves as the Provincial Chair of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council.

Colonel Mahoney received the Canadian Forces Decoration and in 1995, was invested as an Officer in the Order of Military Merit.
