BP A+ For Energy Grants

CALGARY, March 25, 2014 /CNW/ - BP Canada is proud to present this year's A+ for Energy Grants. This program gives teachers in Alberta and the Northwest Territories the opportunity to bring energy and energy conservation to life in their classroom through grants of up to $10,000. Applications are being accepted now until April 11, 2014. Visit www.aplusforenergy.ca for more details.

Since the program's inception in 2007, BP Canada has awarded over $3,000,000 to Alberta and Northwest Territories teachers, benefitting more than 68,500 students from K-12. In 2013 alone, the program awarded $410,000 to teachers and students.

A+ for Energy encourages teachers of ANY subject, not just science, to help their students become more energy literate and discover ways to make lasting differences in our society. Through this program, BP hopes the teachers' classroom projects make meaningful impressions that will serve students far beyond the projects they complete.

Winning projects are announced in May, and past winning projects have included creating a more energy efficient and paperless school, documentaries about energy, and using the sun to power lanterns, cook hotdogs, and heat fish tanks. "BP believes teachers are the foundation for building a bright future, and that's why we are passionate about providing them resources that can help spark young minds to think critically and creatively about the role energy plays in all our lives," says Amanda Balint Communication Advisor for BP Canada.

A+ for Energy is more than just a grant. Winning teachers are also invited to a three-day Energy Workshop hosted by Inside Education in August. At the workshop, teachers learn more about energy education and have the opportunity to network with other winning teachers and energy education experts.
