Airline uses Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework to complete
CALGARY, Dec. 20, 2012 /CNW/ - WestJet today announced the completion of its second corporate social responsibility report, the first using the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework to
report on economic, environmental and social performance.
"This report demonstrates WestJet's ongoing commitment to sustainable
growth and to our responsibilities to the communities we serve,"
commented Mike McNaney, WestJet Vice-President, Environment, Fuel and
Government Relations. "Building off last year's 'Responsible Growth'
report, we have made the commitment to further our reporting on the
socially responsible elements of our airline. I would like to extend a
warm thanks to the more than 9,000 WestJetters who deliver our caring
brand in all aspects of our business."
WestJet reported against the GRI's key performance indicators in the
areas of economic, environmental and social performance. The airline
self-declared an application level C, which is intended for first-time
reporting organizations. WestJet's GRI report was reviewed with select
indicators assured by Deloitte and Touche LLP, thereby demonstrating
our commitment to transparency and demonstrating a leading practice in
WestJet's GRI report can be viewed at http://www.westjet.com/pdf/global-reporting.pdf.
The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is an independent global
organization that works with the United Nations Environment Program to
make sustainability reporting standard practice. GRI produces a
comprehensive sustainability reporting framework that is widely used
around the world to promote greater organizational transparency. The
framework sets out the principles and indicators organizations can use
to measure and report their economic, environmental and social
performance. GRI is committed to continuously improving and increasing
the use of the guidelines, which are freely available to the public.
