New Salads Deliver Premium Ingredients, Freshly Prepared
OAKVILLE, ON, March 17, 2014 /CNW/ - Wendy's, the restaurant that first brought the salad bar to quick service
customers more than 30 years ago, is keeping it fresh and reinventing
salads once again. The three new mouth-watering options - Asian Cashew
Chicken Salad, BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad and Taco Supremo Salad - are now
available in Canada and provide customers with freshly prepared
ingredients delivering unrivaled taste in every bite.
The three chef-inspired flavours are part of Wendy's permanent salad
menu in Canada and are available in full-size and half-size to give
customers more options to meet their dietary needs and dining
occasions. The half-size can also be purchased as part of Wendy's Pair
2 combinations, which can accompany a fountain beverage, bottle of
Dasani, Small Frosty, a sour cream and chives baked potato, small chili
or Jr. cheeseburger deluxe. Wendy's is providing salad consumers with
fresh new tastes they would typically find in casual dining
restaurants, but with the speed, convenience and price of a quick
"As a leader in the quick service restaurant segment when it comes to
the salad business, we are delighted to continue offering the freshest
options to our Canadian customers," said Lisa Deletroz, director of
marketing for Wendy's Restaurants of Canada. "Our new premium salads
feature innovative flavour profiles inspired by contemporary culinary
trends and include the highest quality ingredients, made fresh every

Canada. We are excited to provide our customers with fresh, new salad
offerings in our Canadian restaurants."
The new salads are now available at Wendy's restaurants nationwide.
About the salads
Asian Cashew Chicken Salad - Nutritious and Delicious!
The fully-dressed full-size salad is only 370 calories, while the
fully-dressed half-size has only 230 calories. Wendy's has gone beyond
the predictable canned fruit and ginger dressing found in other
Asian-inspired salads in favour of more contemporary, on-trend
ingredients like fire-roasted edamame and red peppers sliced fresh in
every Wendy's restaurant.
In addition to the hint of smokiness added by the edamame, Wendy's
brings the heat with spicy roasted cashews dusted with garlic, onion,
and sea salt, and a Light Spicy Asian Chili Vinaigrette made with chili
garlic sauce, roasted peanuts, soy sauce, lime juice and brown sugar.
The Asian Cashew Chicken Salad also features freshly sliced cucumbers,
a lettuce blend made up of 11 different kinds of field greens topped
with a warm and grilled chicken breast fillet, chopped fresh to order.
BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad - Backyard Barbeque in a Bowl
The BBQ Chicken Salad is a big, bold salad that is packed with flavour.
Inspired by the tastes of a good old-fashioned backyard barbeque, the
savoury BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad uses premium ingredients often found
around the grill, such as fire-roasted corn (paying homage to grilled
corn on the cob), freshly diced tomatoes and Applewood-Smoked bacon
that adds even more crunch.
The salad is served with a BBQ Ranch dressing made with real buttermilk,
parmesan cheese, ancho chili pepper, honey and brown sugar. A warm,
grilled chicken breast fillet adds the perfect amount of heat against
cool produce, all drizzled with a honey barbeque sauce. The sharpness
of shredded cheddar cheese complements the sweetness from the barbeque
sauce. The salad also includes 11 different kinds of field greens that
give a burst of freshness.
Taco Supremo Salad - True flavours of Mexico
The Taco Supremo salad is a tribute to the freshness and worldly famous
flavour profile of Mexican cuisine Canadians know and love. It offers
customers a salad composed of a crisp bed of fresh lettuce, rich meaty
chili, ripe fresh tomatoes, red onions, tangy salsa, shredded cheddar
cheese, sour cream and crunchy taco chips - a burst of flavour in every
The Asian Cashew Chicken Salad, the BBQ Chicken Salad and the Taco
Supremo Salad are available in Wendy's restaurants nationwide for a
recommended price of $8.49 for the full-size; $4.99 for the half-size
and $6.49 for the Pair 2 option.
Salad Innovation an Exciting Part of Wendy's Brand Transformation
Salad innovation is just one component of Wendy's ongoing brand
transformation that includes the re-imaging of restaurants with a bold,
contemporary look; an updated Wendy's logo; new crew uniforms;
consumer-preferred menu boards; and smart, new packaging.
"Menu innovation is top of mind for Wendy's and it plays a huge role in
the brand transformation the restaurant is going through this year,"
said Deletroz. "We are anticipating great feedback from Canadian
customers regarding the new salads."
To support the new salad innovations, Wendy's launched a 30-second TV
spot which will run nationally from today until mid-May. In addition, Wendy's Facebook page and YouTube channels will feature the unique web series entitled "Girlfriends at
Wendy's Eating Salad & Talking About Stuff". The web series captures
the lunchtime adventures of two friends as they catch-up over Wendy's
new salad collection. They discuss topics from fashion and fitness to
dating and relationships - sharing hilarious observations and insights
along the way. Beginning on March 24th, tune in and become the third member of their lunchtime crew as they
share their entertaining outlook on everyday life; then join in the
