Montreal Alouettes owner provides seed funding to app dedicated to connecting social influencers with audiences
MONTREAL, Oct. 6, 2016 /CNW/ -- Veri, the soon-to-be-released platform connecting social celebrities and their fans, today announced it has secured multi-million dollar seed funding led by Montreal Alouettes owner and founding partner of McConnell Wetenhall & Co, Inc., Bob Wetenhall. The company will apply the funds to help expand its current beta version which is set for public launch later this year.
Veri launched its beta version at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco on September 13, 2016. Through the app, digital influencers meeting a certain follower criteria, can engage in virtual one-on-one interactions with fans through paid bookings. For fans, Veri offers the chance to take the social celebrity meeting to the next level, with unprecedented, personal access.
"Mr. Wetenhall is an accomplished businessperson and visionary both in the U.S. and Canada. His contributions to Montreal have played an integral part in developing our city's legacy and culture. Mr. Wetenhall's financial support of Veri further highlights his belief in the entrepreneurial spirit, in Canadian talent and in the importance of social media in the future of business," said Jon Bucci, CEO of Veri.
Educated at Princeton University, Mr. Wetenhall became an investment banker, and later a founding partner at McConnell Wetenhall & Co, Inc. In 2011, he was granted an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by McGill University in recognition of his work in the redevelopment of the Montreal Alouettes and the expansion of Percival Molson Memorial Stadium. Wetenhall got involved with Veri because he immediately detected the vision and unbound upside the platform offers based on his extensive experience in entertainment and as an owner of various athletic franchises.
"It takes the right combination of leadership, technology, and talent to succeed in the ever evolving social media marketplace. That is why I am so enthusiastic about Veri. The platform connects individuals on a micro, personal level. I can only imagine the type of inspirational and positive interactions this platform will enable for the social celebrity and his or her followers," added Wetenhall.
Based in Montreal, Veri is an online platform that acts as a trusted, reputable marketplace where fans and celebrities can meet in a one-on-one context safely, efficiently, and intuitively. Their mission is to remove the power from traditional talent agencies and place it in the hands of established and rising social stars.
