As a new U.S. airline, Virgin America has been shaking things up in the U.S. by injecting healthy competition into new markets - with lower fares and better service. Since its August 2007 launch, the airline has captured every major reader-based travel award in the U.S. with its innovative approach to cabin design, service and high-tech amenities.

The carrier is also one of the few U.S. airlines thriving, expanding and adding jobs in the current climate. The airline is expanding to five new destinations in 2010 and its fleet will grow by almost two-thirds by the end of 2011.

Having spent 22 years at American Airlines prior to joining Virgin America in Dec 2007, David brings an interesting perspective to the topic of competition in the airline industry and the obstacles that new entrant carriers face - especially given the climate of consolidation and the challenging economics in the sector.
