Enterprise-Wide Capabilities

<p><location>PERTH</location>, <location>Australia</location>, <chron>Jan. 11</chron> /CNW/ -- <location>Perth</location> software house, Applecross Technologies Pty Ltd. ("APTECH") today announced General Availability of V2.3 of its Privileged User Manager ® ("PUM") software. PUM provides users with the first, commercial-strength privileged account (super user) monitoring, management and auditing package for UNIX and Linux based systems that is available at no greater cost than a supported version of an open source alternative.</p>
<p/>
<p>PUM allows end user organizations to centrally manage, monitor and audit the use of super user accounts, providing an indelible audit trail of all activity. The new version of the web browser based PUM software adds LDAP-based authentication, improved scalability, and enhanced reporting and archiving.</p>
<p/>
<p>In particular, PUM V2.3 now provides organizations with the option of authenticating the super users it manages and monitors against an LDAP-based service such as Microsoft's Active Directory.</p>
<p/>
<p><person>Neil Chaney</person>, CEO of Applecross Technologies said, "PUM previously authenticated users against its own secure database, but a number of our larger end user organizations asked us to add the option to authenticate against a central directory service."</p>
<p/>
<p>PUM's scalability has also been improved as the selection process by a major financial organisation showed. PUM was benchmarked to see just how many privileged users and managed servers it could cope with. Scripts were written to simulate up to 600 systems administrators managing an estate of some two thousand managed servers. The benchmarks were run by the end user organization using PUM's web browser based Client software, which allows an administrator to concurrently manage any number of servers.</p>
<p/>
<p>The results were impressive. Chaney went on to say, "All activity was run on a single four-CPU Access Server. Even with 600 concurrent super users each issuing a command every 2 seconds against an estate of 2,000 servers, the Access Server only reached 75% CPU capacity."</p>
<p/>
<p>Chaney ended by saying, "PUM V2.3 now offers even the largest end users a secure platform for managing, monitoring and auditing its super users, who also benefit from the productivity gains that PUM offers systems administrators."</p>
<p/>
<p>The software is sold and supported worldwide by Applecross Technologies Pty Ltd., its strategic partner - Open Systems Management ("OSM") in <location>Europe</location> and the Americas - and authorized resellers.</p>
<p/>
<p>The software is offered on an annual subscription license basis only, and the annual fee includes the license, support and all upgrades. Pricing is set at US$1.00 per system per day, or US$365 per system per year. Discounts are provided for volume purchases.</p>
