VANOC to announce Vancouver 2010 Olympic Truce Northern Outreach Project on
Monday, January 4 at CFB Winnipeg

WINNIPEG, Dec. 30 /CNW/ - The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) will hold a news conference in Winnipeg, MB, on Monday, January 4 to unveil the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Truce Northern Outreach Project. The project, the latest initiative in VANOC's Olympic Truce Program, will deliver Olympic Spirit Boxes filled with donated sporting goods for young athletes in some of Canada's most remote communities.

The sporting equipment has been donated by Nike, the official high performance sporting goods manufacturer for the 2010 Winter Games, while the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames have provided hockey sticks.

The media will have an opportunity to view the loading of the last of the Olympic Spirit Boxes onto a Canadian Forces' CC-130 Hercules transport aircraft at Canadian Forces Base Winnipeg. The plane will depart shortly after the news conference to start the delivery of the donated sporting goods, which will take place from January 4 to January 10.
