VANOC Statement - Thérèse Rochette's passing

VANCOUVER, Feb. 21 /CNW/ - We learned of the tragic news that Mme Thérèse Rochette, mother of Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette, passed away at the Vancouver General Hospital.

On behalf of the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and the thousands of employees, volunteers and partners of the Games, we offer our deepest condolences to Joannie and to the family and friends of the Rochettes.

We have been informed that Joannie will continue to compete in the Games this week and we salute her courage and strength of character during these difficult times.

We ask the media to respect the privacy of the family during these difficult times.
