Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection on tour coming to Southgate Centre

EDMONTON, Sept. 3, 2015 /CNW/ - Southgate Centre announced today that it will host the Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection next month. This initiative will serve educational and promotional purposes as a Museum pop-up exhibition in the Centre.

Ivanhoé Cambridge's Southgate Centre will be the first North American shopping centre to introduce the high-quality, limited-edition 3D reproductions of some of Vincent van Gogh's most celebrated works, in a traveling museum exhibition, which will begin in Edmonton on October 16, and end on November 15, 2015.

With this museum innovation, not only will Southgate Centre present a one-of-a-kind exhibit to its guests, but it will also contribute to the shopping experience while promoting culture and education. During the exhibition Southgate Centre will organize various events and visits of private tours and schools in partnership with the arts and educational communities of Edmonton.

The Collection
The Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection contributes to the mission of the Van Gogh Museum to make the life and work of Vincent van Gogh and the art of his time accessible to as many people as possible in order to enrich and inspire them.

The Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection consists of nine carefully selected masterpieces: Almond Blossom, Sunflowers, The Harvest, Wheatfield under Thunderclouds, Boulevard de Clichy, Undergrowth, The Bedroom, Fishing Boats on the Beach at Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Landscape at Twilight.

Each work is reproduced by means of a most advanced technique, called Reliefography, developed by Fujifilm Europe. It allows the Van Gogh Museum to recreate Van Gogh's art in full three-dimensional, high-quality details and resemble the original works as close as possible.

"Van Gogh often used thick applications of paint on his canvas, making his work well suited to showcase the new technology used to produce the Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection. These high-quality limited editions allow people to experience the power and strength of Van Gogh's imaginative brush work in an innovative new manner, as well as to acquire their own Van Gogh masterpiece," explained Axel Rüger, director of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.

The Van Gogh Museum has authorized certified and numbered a limited edition of 260, for each of the nine reproduced masterpieces, which contains imaging of both sides of the painting, including a museum quality frame. Small details like the stickers on the back stretcher bars highlight where and when the painting has been exhibited throughout the world.

Willem van Gogh, the great, great grandson of Theo van Gogh (Vincent's brother), advisor to the Board of the Van Gogh Museum and enthusiastic supporter of the Museum's efforts to carry on Vincent's legacy, will take part in special events in Edmonton. "This limited edition allows us to reach an expansive world audience through the utilization of cutting edge technology," said Willem Van Gogh.

"We are relentless in our efforts to diversify the shopping experience for our visitors through unique, entertaining and relevant activations," said Belinda Davidson, vice-president of Strategic Marketing at Ivanhoe Cambridge. "The exhibition of Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection will illuminate our inner lives and enrich the emotional world of adults, children who will have the opportunity to actually touch a Van Gogh."

Limited and exclusive
Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection offers those who admire Vincent van Gogh the exclusive opportunity to encounter Van Gogh's world at close range, to share and enjoy his genius with others and to become actively involved in the legacy of this fascinating artist. Each Limited Edition is for sale. The core of this collection originally comes from the artist's family and is now on permanent loan from the Vincent van Gogh Foundation.

The museum aims to provide a rich overview of the art of Van Gogh and the century in which he lived. Masterpieces such as The potato eatersThe yellow houseSunflowers and The bedroom are just a few of the world-famous works on display. The visitor can see from Van Goghs paintings how, just in ten years, he evolved from a rather old-fashioned working artist into one of the forerunners of modern art.
