NEWMARKET, ON, July 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Unity Telecom is sad to announce
the death of its founder and President, Dave Sherry, on June 26, 2012.
A lifelong entrepreneur, Dave Sherry founded Unity in 2004 and grew the
company to be a North American leader in telecommunications.
"Dave always thought of the company as his extended family - choosing
employees with care, encouraging independence, initiative and growth
among all employees. He was a true leader and an inspiring mentor who
was always very proud of our team's work to make Unity a success," says
his wife Erin Sherry.
A member of the Newmarket Economic Development committee and a large
supporter of the York Regional Abuse Program, as well as many other
community charities, Mr. Sherry was known throughout the industry for
being just as passionate about his friends, family and community as he
was about business.
It is his vision for growth and commitment to customers and community
that will serve Unity well in its future plans.
Erin Sherry will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer
immediately. In her role as Vice President of Finance, Erin has
overseen Unity's finances and administration since its inception. She
was part of the strategic team that laid the foundation of the company
which has built its presence in every major Canadian city and the U.S.
with an office in Arizona.
Mrs. Sherry will be joined by Randy Bergeron, Vice President of Sales,
who will take on the role of President. Mr. Bergeron's early career as
a technical engineer and software specialist, as well as his extensive
experience in telecommunications operations prepares him well for this
"A trusted partner and friend, Randy worked alongside Dave for three
decades and has been with Unity since the company was founded. He has
been integral to Unity's tremendous growth, including the deployment of
business communications solutions for more than 3,000 customer
locations in the last eight years," says Mrs. Sherry.
"Working with Dave, I learned from the very best, and I am dedicated to
maintaining the integrity that has always been such an important part
of Unity," says Bergeron. "Our team is the best in the industry and we
are all passionate about reaching and surpassing our goals."
Avaya named Unity its 2011 Unified Communications Partner of the Year
and Marketing Partner of the Year. Unity was named thirteenth on the
2008 Profit Hot 50 and also was awarded Gold for the Best Small
Business Solution at CDN's 2008 Channel Elite Awards that same year.
