TVO welcomes Karen Grose as Vice President Digital Education

TORONTO, Feb. 11, 2014 /CNW/ - TVO continues to build on its strength in helping kids and parents learn by adding Karen Grose as the first Vice President, Digital Education. Karen is responsible for developing innovative content, products and services for inside and outside Ontario's classrooms that support success for students, teachers and parents.

"Karen knows how to use technology to help kids learn as a former senior superintendent, principal and teacher who will complete her PhD in Digital Learning at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education this spring," said TVO Chief Executive Officer Lisa de Wilde. "With Karen's leadership, TVO will have even more impact helping Ontario students inside and outside the classroom become the leaders of tomorrow in a high-skill, high-wage economy."

As Vice President, Digital Education, Karen brings a passion for the world of teaching and learning to TVO. Karen's curiosity regarding the power of technology-enabled learning began as a classroom teacher when she saw how technology enabled students to demonstrate their knowledge, anytime and anywhere, through any preferred learning modality.

"I believe that the use of technology is successful when it is effectively used as a tool to support sound pedagogical practices, and the tools used are connected to authentic teaching and learning," said Grose. "TVO is uniquely placed to be the delivery and innovation partner for Ontario educators, students and parents, inside and outside the classroom."

Prior to joining TVO, Karen served the Toronto District School Board as Coordinating Superintendent of Strategy and Program Planning. In that role, she engaged others in their efforts to build inspiring and innovative learning environments so that all learners have the knowledge and skills to succeed in today's globalized and technologically connected world. Over the course of her 24 year career in education, Karen has held progressively senior roles including Principal, School Superintendent, and K-12 Program Superintendent. In each of these roles, raising student achievement and improving learning for all students through instructional leadership, creativity, collaboration and equity have been her driving passions.

Karen graduated from Western University (HBA), York University (BEd) and the University of Toronto (MEd), and is deeply committed to the process of life-long learning. A recent graduate of The Learning Partnership's Executive Leadership Program at the Rotman School of Management, and a doctoral candidate at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, she continues to learn alongside students, educators, parents, researchers, and other sector partners. Karen champions Ontario's drive to support technology-enabled learning and knowledge exchange as a member of the Board of Directors of ORION (Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network).
