Toronto Stock Exchange Statistics - December 2009

New trading and financing records set

TORONTO, Jan. 6 /CNW/ - Toronto Stock Exchange today announced its market statistics for December and full-year 2009. Kevan Cowan, President TSX Markets and Group Head of Equities noted: "2009 saw Toronto Stock Exchange reach a number of new trading and financing records. As we look to 2010, we are optimistic that the signs of economic recovery seen at the end of 2009 will continue and that organizations will turn to our markets to raise the capital required to fuel their growth. Our focus is to provide a strong, central, neutral and highly-liquid marketplace to facilitate access to capital for companies of all sizes as they work to achieve their full potential."

Total financings raised were $60.0 billion, which surpassed the previous record of $47.6 billion set in 2007. The total 2009 trading volume of 118.5 billion exceeded the record of 109.2 billion set in 2008. A new record for transactions was also set in 2009; 191.3 million trades occurred in 2009 compared to the previous record of 182.9 million, which was set last year.

TMX Group Consolidated Trading Statistics Coming Soon

TMX Group will begin issuing a monthly consolidated trading statistics report starting with January 2010 data. The report will include monthly and year-to-date trading data for Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, Montreal Exchange and NGX. Financing data for Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange will follow in a separate news release one to two days later.
