Survey: CFOs See Delegating and Fewer Meetings as Top Time Management
TORONTO, July 10, 2014 /CNW/ - When it comes to managing their time,
executives have their favourite strategies. Thirty-nine per cent of chief financial officers (CFOs) interviewed said they find working
efficiently comes from delegating more responsibilities, while 25 per cent said spending less time in meetings is the secret to maximizing work hours.
The survey was developed by Robert Half Management Resources, the
world's premier provider of senior-level finance, accounting and
business systems professionals on a project and interim basis. It was
conducted by an independent research firm and is based on interviews
with more than 270 Canadian CFOs from a random sample of companies.
CFOs were asked, "Which one of the following is most effective in helping you manage your
time at work?" Their responses:
Delegating more responsibilities
Spending less time in meetings
Taking greater advantage of technology tools
Travelling less frequently
David King, Canadian president of Robert Half Management Resources, said
executives shouldn't just look at delegating as a time management
strategy, but also an effective approach to succession planning.
"Sharing the responsibility gives employees the opportunity to take on
new challenges and the chance to hone in on skills that will help them
move up within the organization," he said.
"It's important to frequently review internal processes and evaluate
where time and resources can be used more efficiently," King added. "By
setting a clear agenda, inviting only the relevant team members and
keeping track of time, managers can ensure meetings are a productive
part of the work-day instead of wasted."
