Third 2016 Census of Population release: Families, households, marital status and language

OTTAWA, July 26, 2017 /CNW/ - Next week, Statistics Canada will turn the spotlight on Canadian families, their households, how they live, and the languages they speak. As Canada marks its 150th anniversary, Statistics Canada will continue to share its year-long story of our country and its people, based on the census results.

Data on families, households, marital status and language will be published at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time on August 2, 2017, on Statistics Canada's website.

The Families, households and marital status release will provide data on the recent changes in Canadian households and families from a variety of perspectives at the national, provincial, territorial and sub-provincial levels. In addition, three Census in Brief articles will provide analyses on the following topics: the diverse family situations of children, young adults living with their parents, and same-sex couples in Canada.

The Language release will examine the languages Canadians speak and present results at the national, provincial and territorial levels, as well as for some large census metropolitan areas. Three Census in Brief articles will be published, focusing on English‒French bilingualism, multilingualism and linguistic diversity, and official language minorities.

As with previous census releases, the story of Canada as seen through the 2016 Census will be supplemented with data visualization products, including infographics and a video.

Over the coming months, Statistics Canada will release additional data from the 2016 Census of Population, providing greater insights on the Canadian population. Data and analyses on the following topics will be released throughout 2017:

  • Income (September 13, 2017)
  • Immigration, ethnocultural diversity, housing and Aboriginal peoples (October 25, 2017)
  • Education, labour, journey to work, language of work, mobility and migration (November 29, 2017).
