Thermal Energy was headline sponsor of NHS Sustainable Development 2010

OTTAWA, March 12 /CNW Telbec/ - Thermal Energy International Inc. (TSX-V: TMG) (www.thermalenergy.com) ("Thermal Energy" or "the company"), a provider of award-winning energy recovery, conservation and bio-energy solutions, is pleased to announce that the company was a headline sponsor at the National Health Service UK ("NHS") Sustainable Development 2010 - One Future, Different Paths Conference and Exhibition held last month at the Church House Conference Centre in Westminster, UK.

The NHS is a publicly funded healthcare system in Great Britain. According to its web site, the NHS is the largest single organization by employment in Europe, employing 5 per cent of the UK workforce and producing more than 18 million tonnes of CO2 per year - 3.2 per cent of carbon emissions and 25 per cent of public sector emissions in England - the largest public sector contributor to climate change and the NHS is working vigorously to reduce its energy consumption by 80% by 2050 against a baseline use in 2000, a legal limit set by the UK Government. The NHS Sustainable Development 2010 - One Future, Different Paths Conference and Exhibition aimed to identify the progress to date and define the challenges moving forward in creating a sustainable NHS legacy for the future. This is set within the context of the current regulatory framework and policy mandate for the UK under the groundbreaking Climate Change, Planning and Energy Acts. Taken together, these provide an action plan to secure a Low Carbon Future and reduce carbon emissions by 10 per cent below 1990 levels by 2010, 34 per cent by 2020, and 80 per cent by 2050, according to govtoday.co.uk, an online resource for the public sector in the UK.

During the conference, Thermal Energy's Sales & Marketing Director for UK and Europe, Grant Bailey, alongside Will Day, Chair for the Sustainable Development Commission, gave a talk to an audience of CEOs and Directors of individual NHS Trusts and hospitals on how adopting innovative technology can not only reduce the NHS's carbon footprint but also save on energy bills. "Currently, the NHS is spending in excess of (pnds stlg)400 million (approx. $620M CAD) on energy each year," cited Mr. Day.

Mr. Bailey further demonstrated specifically on how Thermal Energy's products and solutions can help individual NHS Trusts and hospitals achieve their energy saving targets. The presentation was well received and attracted various enquiries from hospitals looking to achieve those targets. In addition to the presentation, Thermal Energy exhibited its wide range of Flu-Ace heat recovery solutions and GEM Venturi orifice steam traps.

Commenting, Grant Bailey said: "Large amounts of energy can be easily lost through steam wastage, which is being addressed by Thermal Energy whose range of products can provide financial and environmental benefits to customers. These benefits are already being enjoyed by many NHS Trusts throughout the UK".
