The Ontario Teachers' Federation welcomes new Minister of Education

TORONTO, Jan. 19 /CNW/ - The Ontario Teachers' Federation welcomes new Education Minister, Leona Dombrowsky, appointed yesterday by Premier Dalton McGuinty.

"Her previous Cabinet experience, coupled with her knowledge and experience in education, will serve her well in this new role. We look forward to working with her," says OTF President Reno Melatti.

"Ontario's education system has seen many positive changes under the guidance of Minister Kathleen Wynne. Both her commitment to and background in education was evident throughout her time as Minister. Her focus on dialogue among all education stakeholders was a crucial component of her leadership style; this resulted in a co-operative and collaborative approach within the education sector. We look forward to continuing that consultation with the new Minister as she implements ongoing programs and the recently announced all-day Kindergarten," says Melatti.

"We have appreciated the opportunity to work with Minister Wynne and wish her well in her new portfolio."

The Ontario Teachers' Federation is the advocate for the teaching profession in Ontario and for its 160,000 teachers. OTF members are full-time, part-time and occasional teachers in all the publicly funded schools in the province-elementary, secondary, public, Catholic and francophone.
