ORILLIA, ON, Jan. 19, 2016 /CNW/ - Organizers of the storied Mariposa Folk Festival taking place July 8, 9, 10, 2016, announced today that contemporary folk duo from Los Angeles, The Milk Carton Kids, will anchor the Sunday evening Main Stage lineup.
Sporting a fresh sound with beautifully harmonized vocals, exquisitely entwined acoustic guitar playing, and rootsy yet eloquent song writing, National Public Radio says the pair are like "Gillian Welch & David Rawlings meets Simon & Garfunkel with a splash of The Everly Brothers."
Their expressive, quirky, warm and delightful performances have earned them a glowing reputation and a large and quickly expanding fan base.
After forming in 2011, they spent most of the next year on the road with other big name folk acts. The duo has performed on late-night's Conan, the legendary Austin City Limits television show, A Prairie Home Companion, appeared on numerous other television and radio broadcasts, and they have released a concert DVD and four albums so far in a relatively short but rapidly ascendant career.
According to Mariposa Folk Festival Artistic Director, Mike Hill, "I could tell from the first time I heard them that The Milk Carton Kids would become a big deal, and I have been trying ever since to book them at Mariposa", adding "There will be lots of happy festivalgoers when they hear this news".
The 3-day Mariposa Folk Festival will feature folk/roots song, story, dance and craft on eleven stages. All categories of ticket are now on sale. Kids 12 & under are admitted free. Tent and RV camping is available on site.
Previously, the festival announced that The Delta Queen, Rita Coolidge, will anchor the Friday evening Main Stage. The festival will feature approximately fifty artists on the North American and international scene.
