Mr. Claude Béchard, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food

LONGUEUIL, QC, Jan. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - The Fédération des producteurs de porcs du Québec (FPPQ) wishes a fast recovery to Mr Claude Béchard, Minister of MAPAQ. "The news of the recurrence of Mr Béchard's cancer was a surprise," commented FPPQ president, Mr Jean-Guy Vincent. "Since his nomination, Claude Béchard has always recognized and been a supporter of Québec's agriculture. Today we would like to offer our support to him and his family in this difficult time."

Pork producers in Québec hope to see their minister back at work soon. They hope that the trusting relationship that they have built with Mr Béchard will be a very long one.

Pork producers raise 7.5 million hogs annually generating 1.5 billion dollars in revenue, benefiting every region in the province. Pork production employs 24 000 people in Québec. Sixty percent of pork produced in Québec is exported to over 75 countries.
