The Disciplinary Council of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec sanctions Gilles P. Vézina, former City of Montreal engineer

MONTREAL, July 22, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - In its decision on sanction in the case of Gilles P. Vézina, the Disciplinary Council of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec imposed the penalty of being struck from the roll for two concurrent periods of 3 years. The decision, which was rendered by the Disciplinary Council on July 16, also ordered Mr. Vézina to pay all court and publication costs.

Mr. Vézina was found guilty on several counts of accepting undue advantages from the contractors that did business with his employer and of failing to maintain his professional independence by avoiding conflicts of interest. Mr. Vézina's offences were committed between 2000 and 2009, while he was working for the City of Montreal.

Sanctions are imposed by the Disciplinary Council to protect the public, dissuade this professional from repeating the offences and set an example for other members of the profession.

The full version of the Disciplinary Council's decision, including the summary of charges against Mr. Vézina, is available on the OIQ's Web site.
