The Co-operators United Way campaign raises $598,000

GUELPH, ON, Jan. 15, 2016 /CNW/ - Today, The Co-operators announced the results of its United Way campaign. Co-operators staff members across the country donated $359,386 and the organization made a corporate contribution of $239,514 for a grand total of $598,900 donated to United Way chapters across Canada.

Staff-led campaigns including pledges, education sessions and a wide variety of fundraising events were held at a number of Co-operators offices. The annual campaigns allow employees to learn about the great work being done by local United Way-supported organizations while participating in a number of fun activities such as bake sales, talent contests and raffles.

"The agencies that are supported through the United Way provide invaluable services to members of communities across the country, and it's a pleasure to be able to support them," said Kathy Bardswick, president and CEO of The Co-operators. "The enthusiasm and generosity of our employees shine through during the United Way campaigns and it is inspiring to see every year."

United Way member agencies across Canada work in big cities and small towns to improve lives and build community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action. Support and funding from donors such as The Co-operators allows the United Way member agencies to invest in their communities to create opportunities for people to make a better life for themselves. The United Way is the largest non-government funder of social services and the voluntary sector in Canada.
