The Brick® launches Breakfast for Learning™ campaign

Proceeds from in-store donations and Brickley Bear sales to help feed Canadian children and youth

EDMONTON, March 9, 2015 /CNW/ - An ongoing partnership between The Brick and Breakfast for Learning is getting a friendly helping hand to feed hungry schoolchildren across Canada.

Through August 31, 2015, The Brick's charity bear, Brickley, will be sold in-store and online to raise funds for Breakfast for Learning. Donations will also be accepted at The Brick's 220 stores across Canada.

"When your mom said 'breakfast is the most important meal of the day,' she was right," said Jim Caldwell, President of The Brick.

"Unfortunately, too many kids in our country go to school on an empty stomach, impeding their ability to learn and prepare for a successful future. That's why The Brick believes it's so important to support Breakfast for Learning and its vision to ensure all children and youth in Canada attend school well-nourished."

Proceeds from sales of Brickley, along with all donations, will go to Breakfast for Learning to help fill hungry tummies and open curious minds. The national charitable organization works with schools and communities to help them start and operate programs that provide meals and snacks to at-risk and hungry children.

The Brick aims to raise $400,000 for Breakfast for Learning over the next six months, including a pledge to match donations up to $100,000. Since The Brick and Breakfast for Learning began their partnership in 2012, The Brick has raised more than $700,000 for the organization and its important work.

"We are absolutely thrilled that Brickley Bear will be helping to raise funds for us this year," said Samantha David, Executive Director of Breakfast for Learning. "We have such a strong and valued relationship with The Brick, and we're certain Brickley will make the 2015 campaign better than ever."

Since its launch in 1992, Breakfast for Learning has provided more than 550 million meals and snacks to more than 3.6 million children across Canada.
