John Herdman, Chin Injeti and Marina Adshade kick off this year's speaker roster
VANCOUVER, Sept. 23, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, TEDxVancouver officially reveals the date, location, theme, and three of the event's speakers for this year's highly anticipated experience. Returning for its seventh year, TEDxVancouver 2015 will be the biggest TEDx event in the city's history and will take place at the theatre at Rogers Arena proudly partnered with Aquilini Centre on Saturday, November 14, 2015.
Known for presenting thought-provoking themes that shape the entire event day from speaker talks to entertainment, this year's theme is ID - a unique focus on the conceptions and realities of individual identification. Who are we? Who am I? Who will I be? This year's speakers will delve deep into questions that explore this topic. And most importantly, Vancouverites will be encouraged to think about their roles as "I and We" in our beautiful city.
The first three remarkable individuals to uncover 'ID' represent the fields of Sport, Music, Sex and Economics:
John Herdman: Head Coach of the Canadian Women's National Soccer Team, John Herdman has led Canada to a gold medal at the Pan American Games 2011, a bronze medal at the 2012 London Summer Olympics and a sixth place finish at the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015. Before joining the Canadian team, Herdman was head coach of the New Zealand Women's National team from 2006 to 2011, and was nominated for the 2012 Coach of the Year Award by FIFA, the body governing soccer around the world. Herdman stresses the importance of developing a high-performance culture, learning to overcome adversity with grace, and the role of leaders to inspire trust, confidence and success.
Chin Injeti: Co-founder of JUNO Award-winning R&B trio Bass is Base and associated with three GRAMMY Award-winning projects, Chin Injeti is an ultra-talented musical producer and writer that has worked with the likes of Dr. Dre, Dj Khalil, Eminem and, Drake. Born in India, at an early age Chin contracted a debilitating case of polio that left him wheel-chair bound for most of his young life, and music became his saving grace. Injeti has worked with many talented musicians and has developed close relationships along the way by overcoming the hardships that come from a long career of "making it" in the music industry.
Marina Adshade: Economist Marina Adshade's theories on the interplay of market forces in the matters of love and libido have brought her attention from around the globe. Using engaging research and economic analysis, and no small dose of humour, Adshade unlocks the mysteries behind our actions, thoughts and preferences regarding sexual relationships, gender, love and power. She is the author of Dollars and Sex: How Economics Influences Sex and Love, and launched an undergraduate course titled Economics of Sex and Love, which invited her students to approach questions of sex and love through an economist's lens in 2008.
"Speakers at TEDxVancouver are handpicked for their ability to provoke thoughtful conversation, and we are thrilled that John, Chin and Marina are going to do just that by sharing what defines their ID not only in this city, but on a global scale," said Jordan Kallman, President of TEDxVancouver.
TEDxVancouver 2015 will be hosted at the theatre at Rogers Arena proudly partnered with Aquilini Centre. Building on the success and attendance of last year's event, this new venue will not only provide an intimate speaker experience in a custom-built theatre-like environment, but will have the much needed space for local food, unique art, activations and social collision.
"TEDxVancouver is excited to move into a neighbourhood that faces notable transition and growth, and will continue to emerge as a new piece of Vancouver's urban identity in the years ahead," said Kallman.
Over the coming weeks, TEDxVancouver organizers will continue to reveal this year's speaker lineup, and TEDx enthusiasts can keep their eyes peeled for tickets to go on sale to the general public on October 8, 2015. Subscribe at www.tedxvancouver.com for full information and updates.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that brings people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = an independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations)
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or fewer) delivered by today's leading thinkers and doers. Many of these talks are given at TED's annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, and made available, free, on TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
TED's open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from thousands of volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed; the annual million-dollar TED Prize, which funds exceptional individuals with a "wish," or idea, to create change in the world; TEDx, which provides licenses to thousands of individuals and groups who host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
