Study North BC: Where a world-class education meets opportunity, lifestyle and adventure
PRINCE GEORGE, BC, Sept. 25, 2017 /CNW/ - On September 22, 2017, B.C. Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Training Melanie Mark, announced the launch of the Study North BC brand. The minister was joined by more than 50 guests who were on hand to learn about the campaign that includes a robust website, downloadable student handbooks and video media, and how it will encourage a greater number of students to choose the North.
The campaign is a collaborative branding initiative led by the Northern Post-Secondary Council, with representation from the College of New Caledonia, Northern Lights College, Northwest Community College, the University of Northern British Columbia and the B.C. Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training.
The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the world-class education and lifestyle available in Northern British Columbia. Recognizing that today's students are looking for not just a high-quality education, but a fulsome and rewarding learning experience, the northern BC institutions demonstrate they have much to offer learners, adventure seekers and those looking to upgrade their skills in an affordable and welcoming environment.
From field schools and out-of-classroom learning opportunities to a diversity of specialized programming in aerospace, oil and gas, First Nations art and culture, medical, and more, the northern institutions offer modern facilities, world-class programmes and hands-on learning unique to the region.
Proximity to the supernatural Northern BC landscape and the economic heartland of BC offers both access to industry leaders, practical learning and leadership opportunities but also unmatched outdoor recreation, arts, culture and entertainment.
For these reasons, Northern BC has been successful in attracting international students from all over the world and the Study North BC campaign hopes to raise further awareness in jurisdictions across Canada and the globe.
The campaign also seeks to remind students about the robust transfer system in place in BC, which gives students the freedom to move between institutions, starting at one and finishing at another, while taking their credits with them. The comprehensive transfer system in B.C. is a healthy network of transfer agreements across the province that work in concert with each other. One example is the guaranteed admissions and associate degree transfer program in place between the University of Northern BC and the three northern colleges. Under the agreement students completing a 2-year associate degree program at the College of New Caledonia, Northern Lights College or Northwest Community College with 3.0 GPA or higher are guaranteed admissions into UNBC. UNBC is currently rated Canada's #1 small university by Maclean's Magazine and recently debuted on the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, finishing in the top four per cent of higher education institutions worldwide.
