Statement from Minister Goodale on His Visit to Minneapolis and St. Paul

MINNEAPOLIS, MN, June 19, 2017 /CNW/ -

Today, the Honourable Ralph Goodale, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made the following statement following his visit to Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota:

"Canada and the United States share one of the most economically important bilateral relationships in the world, with a long history of trade and partnership. Today, I travelled to Minneapolis and St. Paul, and had productive discussions on additional ways our two countries can work together.

During this trip, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton and I discussed the strong economic ties between Canada and the United States. The annual trade between Canada and the State of Minnesota alone totals US$11.5 billion per year, and more than 174,000 jobs in Minnesota are supported by Canada-US trade and investment.

I then had the opportunity to meet with Minneapolis and St. Paul area business and community leaders, who shared their ideas on the dynamic relationship between our two countries.

I also had the pleasure of participating in the Canadian-American Business Council (CABC) Dialogue on the Canada-U.S. economic relationship and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), where I highlighted Canada's stable business climate, our highly educated and skilled workforce, and other reasons that make Canada an ideal destination for American companies to grow their businesses.

I would like to thank Governor Dayton, the CABC, and the people of Minneapolis and St. Paul for their warm welcome, and look forward to continuing discussions towards our mutual success and prosperity."
