Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada on Italy's new Prime Minister

OTTAWA, Dec. 14, 2016 /CNW/ - The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement congratulating Mr. Paolo Gentiloni on his appointment as the next Prime Minister of Italy:

"On behalf of all Canadians, I would like to congratulate Mr. Paolo Gentiloni on his appointment as Italy's new Prime Minister.

"Canada and Italy have rich and historical ties underpinned by close people-to-people bonds. I look forward to working with Prime Minister Gentiloni on deepening relations between our two countries.

"I would also like to thank outgoing Prime Minister Renzi for being such a good friend to Canada during his time as leader, especially for his support on the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. I wish him well in his future endeavours."
