Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on the Announcement of the Chef de Mission for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games

CALGARY, Feb. 10, 2012 /CNW/ - It is with great pleasure that today I congratulate Steve Podborski, who has been named by the Canadian Olympic Committee as Team Canada's Chef de Mission at the upcoming 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Beyond his reputation as a skiing icon, Mr. Podborski has a proven track record for leadership, having previously performed the role of Assistant Chef de Mission at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

With his knowledge and experience, I am confident that Mr. Podborski will be an invaluable asset to our hundreds of Canadian athletes going for gold in Sochi.

As a supporter of sport excellence in world-class competition, our Government is proud to support Canada's participation at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, and endorses the work of the Canadian Olympic Committee in sending our team to Sochi.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to thank Mr. Podborski for accepting the role of Team Canada's 2014 Chef de Mission. I am confident that his energy and dedication to Canadian sport will inspire and encourage our athletes as they continue their pursuit for excellence on the path to Sochi.
