Retailer also launches two new eco programs aimed at students and schools
TORONTO, April 22, 2014 /CNW/ - Staples Canada today announced the regional finalists for the 2014 Recycle for Education Computer Lab Contest. The contest, held in collaboration with Earth Day Canada, was open to publically funded elementary and secondary schools across Canada and ran from January 6-February 21, 2014. Close to 700 schools submitted entries detailing their environmental initiatives. Ten schools, two from each region, will be selected to receive $25,000 each towards the purchase of new technology and computer lab equipment. Click here to see the list of school finalists.
"We are amazed by the passion for sustainability exhibited by students and teachers alike, and it was difficult to narrow down a list of finalists for each region," said Steve Matyas, president of Staples Canada. "These schools represent our future environmental champions, and the finalists should feel very proud of what they have accomplished."
The 10 winning schools will be announced in early May.
Staples Canada Launches Canada School Recycling
Most of the Staples Canada Recycle for Education Contest entrants incorporated recycling and waste diversion into their green programs, showing the importance of this area for schools. Staples Canada is helping schools make a bigger impact through the Canada School Recycling program. Schools across the country are encouraged to order a free ink cartridge recycling bin and help collect and divert 100,000 cartridges in total by Earth Day 2015. The top 10 schools will receive Staples gift cards. For more information, please visit staples.ca/environment or canadaschoolrecycling.ca.
