Billy Bishop Airport was ranked the ninth best regional airport in North America, making it one of only two regional airports in Canada to be recognized in the category. Billy Bishop Airport was also ranked ninth best airport globally in the under 5 million passenger category. The awards were presented in Amsterdam, Netherlands last night.
The 2017 Awards are based on 13.8 million customer nominations across 105 nationalities of air travellers, and included 550 airports worldwide. Passengers continue to choose Billy Bishop Airport as a top airport with high marks across 39 key performance indicators, including fast check-in times, ease of access to the terminal, and the courtesy and efficiency of airport staff. This is the fourth time that Billy Bishop Airport has won a prestigious Skytrax award, having also won in 2013, 2015, 2016.
"We are incredibly honoured to be named one of the best airports on the continent as well as one of the top airports in the world by the Skytrax World Airport Awards – also known as the 'Passengers Choice Awards,'" said Geoffrey Wilson, CEO of PortsToronto, owner and operator of Billy Bishop Airport. "This accomplishment demonstrates the exceptional work and commitment to excellence in customer service consistently shown by our close to 2,000 employees and speaks to the truly unique passenger experience at Billy Bishop Airport. From amenities such as the pedestrian tunnel, shuttle service, full-service lounges, proximity to downtown and shorter lines to the award-winning airlines, this top international ranking further demonstrates that the airport is recognized as a world-class facility that drives business, creates jobs, facilitates tourism and serves as an important gateway to Toronto."
The Skytrax awards mark the fifth international passenger-driven award received by Billy Bishop Airport this month.
