EDMONTON, Feb. 28, 2018 /CNW/ - The Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (AMVIC) has suspended the business licence of SkyCo Auto Credit Inc. due to an excessive risk of financial harm to consumers, effective Feb. 26, 2018.
AMVIC is investigating five consumer complaints received in the past month regarding allegations against SkyCo Auto Credit Inc. Four consumer complaints relate to unpaid liens, resulting in consumers continuing to pay for vehicles they no longer own. The fifth complaint is regarding a repair invoice SkyCo Auto Credit Inc. failed to pay, leaving a consumer without a vehicle.
The automotive business licence of SkyCo Auto Credit Inc. has been suspended while AMVIC investigates the allegations. While the suspension is in effect, SkyCo Auto Inc., or anyone acting on its behalf, is no longer authorized to sell, consign, or lease vehicles in Alberta. Pending the outcome of the investigation, the Director of Fair Trading (as delegated) will consider whether reinstatement, continued suspension, cancellation or terms of licence are appropriate.
