Ski and Snowboard Gear Lead Holiday Gift Shopping at Sport Chek as Canadians Anticipate the Return of True Canadian Winter
Forecasts of snowy winter contribute to increased demand for skis and boards at Sport Chek stores across Canada
CALGARY, Nov. 22, 2012 /CNW/ - After suffering through a terrible winter last season, skiers and snowboarders are getting out the wax in anticipation of fresh powder as forecasters are calling for a return to a true Canadian winter. Sport Chek, Canada's largest national retailer of sporting goods, answers the forecasts by offering the latest trends in ski and snowboard gear.
Sport Chek has identified the major trends shaping the 2012/2013 ski and snowboard season:
Skis - 'Rockers' are back with their revolutionary arched shape, but this year, they've added wider waist widths. In years past, skiers felt that wider skis were strictly for powder and were difficult to use on groomed conditions. Utilizing the camber and rocker technology, these wider skis handle perfectly on groomed snow, while still providing great float on powder. Top models include: Rossignol S7 Alpine Ski.
Ski Boots - New on the scene are the Ski/Ride Hike boots. With the pull of a cord, these boots transform from having a stiff outer shell, to allowing flexibility in the ankle. This technology is ideal for hiking to find fresh powder or walking through the lodge. The days of stiff boots and awkward lounge walking are over. Top models include: Salomon Quest Series and Nordica Hell and Back Hike.
Snowboard Boots - Move over laces, and make room for the 'Boa'. This technology allows boarders to tighten their boots with a turn of a knob. The Boa also prevents boots from loosening while on the slopes. Top models with Boa technology include: K2 Raider and the K2 Haven Boa.
Goggles - Digital has invaded the goggle industry. Oakley and Smith have both released goggles that integrate music, a speedometer, vertical tracking, smart phone connectivity, buddy tracking, jump analytics and navigation. The digital display is crystal clear and is located in the bottom corner of the lens. This 'Heads-up-Display' technology has revolutionized the goggle industry and made these two items a 'must have'. Top model: Smith I/O Recon. Oakley Airwave will be available next season.
"There is no doubt Sport Chek is the home for all things ski and snowboard this holiday season," said Jason Latreille, Head of Snowsports, Sport Chek. "The hottest trends that Canadians will see on the hills this season are all available in our stores from coast-to-coast. From the die-hard riders to the "I'm just here for the après-ski" crowd, we've got you covered. No one is more excited about the return of the great Canadian winter than we are at Sport Chek."
In select stores, Sport Chek offers consumers a 'shop by appointment' one-on-one experience to ensure the best product and fit are met for your ski and snowboard purchases. Call your local Sport Chek to determine availability of this service.
