Sims Recycling Solutions captures gold award for electronics recycling

TORONTO, Oct. 23 /CNW/ - Sims Recycling Solutions Canada is proud to announce that it was successfully honored with gold distinction at the Recycling Council of Ontario's 2009 Ontario Waste Minimization Awards held last night at Ontario Place's Atlantis Pavilion. This award recognizes Sims Recycling Solutions leadership in the field of environmentally sound electronics recycling.

"RCO is pleased to be able to recognize Sims Recycling Solutions for the role they play in recycling Ontario's Electronic Waste'," says Jo-Anne St. Godard, Executive Director, Recycling Council of Ontario. "The gold distinction recognizes them for their ability to recover all of the valuable materials found in the electronic products they collect minimizing waste throughout their operations."

Sims Recycling Solutions' commitment to sustainable environmentally sound recycling of end of life electronics is demonstrated through their cost-effective solutions that focus on adherence to strict recycling standards, including maximizing recycling rates of the raw materials contained in obsolete electronics, downstream accountability, tracking, monitoring and measurement. Sims Recycling Solutions also facilitates open communications and training with its employees, customers and community to further educate on the importance of recycling as a responsible method of electronic waste life cycle management.

"We are honoured to receive this award, recognizing our contribution as gold medal electronic recyclers contributing to waste minimization efforts in Ontario," said Cindy Coutts, President of Sims Recycling Solutions Canada. "This award serves as further proof of the industry leading electronics recycling we have been focusing on in Canada for many decades. Over the last 5 years alone, Sims Recycling Solutions has recycled 80 million pounds of electronic scrap in Ontario to some of the highest global standards, providing greenhouse gas emissions savings equivalent to removing 20,000 cars from the road for a year".

The Ontario Waste Minimization Awards program is coordinated by the Recycling Council of Ontario and honours organizations involved in providing solutions to issues of consumption, waste, generation, reduction and diversion, and recycling.
