TORONTO, Sept. 23 /CNW/ - Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation (TSX:SC) will launch its eighth annual Tree of Life fundraising campaign this Saturday, September 26, 2009. One hundred percent of the proceeds from this year's campaign will benefit local women's health organizations and charities in the communities served by the Company's more than 1,159 Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix stores across Canada.
"With seven years of successful campaigns and over $11 million raised, the funds from the Tree of Life campaign have provided hundreds of local health charities across the country with essential program funding," said Lisa Gibbs, Manager, Community Investment, Shoppers Drug Mart. "We believe it is possible to reach our goal of raising $2.2 million to improve the lives of women and their families across Canada through the combined efforts of our Pharmacist-owners and their teams at store-level, our employees and customers."
Held each autumn, the Tree of Life campaign gives customers the opportunity to purchase and personalize their own "leaf" for a loonie, "maple leaf" for $5, or an "apple" for $50. Each "leaf" and "apple" is then attached to a Tree of Life which is prominently displayed in all participating stores. This year's campaign will run from September 26th until October 16th.
Shoppers Drug Mart Pharmacist-owners and their pharmacy teams take an active role in their communities, providing trusted healthcare advice and services. Each Pharmacist-owner has personally selected a local women's health organization that resonates best with their community. Through the Tree of Life campaign, Pharmacist-owners and their teams at store-level make an even greater impact on the health and well-being of the women in their communities and in the lives of their families through the provision of much needed funding. Since 2002, the Tree of Life campaign has raised $11 million in support of over 600 Canadian healthcare related charities.
Shoppers Drug Mart supports women's health initiatives at national, regional and local levels. Through this support, our network of stores provides women with access to health care resources, services and education in an effort to improve their whole health.
