360° AND VIRTUAL REALITY CONTENT HIGHLIGHTS THE NEXT GENERATION OF IMMERSIVE STORYTELLING
TORONTO, Nov. 1, 2016 /CNW/ - SESQUI, a revolutionary 360° cinematic experience, previews its highly anticipated full dome and virtual reality content launching in 2017. An official Canada 150 Signature Initiative based in Toronto, the project's innovative programming aims to advance creative industries on local and national levels.
SESQUI offered a sneak peek of the immersive experience today at an open house, as part of the official countdown to Canada150. Audiences previewed the cutting-edge virtual reality app MERIDIAN, as well as HORIZON, a cross-Canada film created and captured using advanced 360° technology and presented in a screen test prototype dome. The film will be projected on a 50-foot hemispherical screen as part of the full one-hour experience in SESQUI's cinematic dome village, travelling coast to coast in 2017.
Executive Producers Andrea Stewart and Joanne Loton along with a team of SESQUI staff and creative partners were on hand to showcase the innovative technology behind the project, developed here in Ontario and contributing to the success of Canada's creative economy.
"We are collaborating with partners from across the country to create and experiment with new technologies that push the boundaries of immersive storytelling," said Joanne Loton, SESQUI Executive Producer. "We want to celebrate Canada's creative spirit and capacity to lead the global frontier in cultural and technological innovation."
As a homegrown initiative, SESQUI has also received significant support from the province of Ontario as part of Ontario150 celebrations.
"Ontario is Canada's engine of growth and SESQUI, developed in Toronto, is a fine example of how we innovate, create, celebrate and inspire — themes that are the foundation of Ontario's 150 programming," said Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. This investment will help create jobs and opportunities for hundreds of Ontario businesses, skilled professionals and students, while providing for Ontarians a truly unique forum to experience Canadian art, music, history and technology, as part of our sesquicentennial celebrations."
Launching in 2017, the full SESQUI experience will include an interactive tour, 360° film experience, immersive content, live events, online activities and education programs.
SESQUI is supported by the Government of Canada as a Signature Initiative of Canada's 150th anniversary of Confederation. The province of Ontario also supports SESQUI in partnership with their Ontario150 celebrations. CBC/Radio Canada is the official media partner of SESQUI.
